What Are Energy and Bandwidth in the TRON Network?
On the TRON blockchain, the transaction fee for tokens depends on two system resources:
Energy
Bandwidth
If a wallet does not have enough of these resources, the network deducts the fee in TRX. If these resources are available, no TRX is spent.
What Is Bandwidth
Bandwidth is consumed by almost every transaction on the TRON network.
Bandwidth covers the cost of the data written to the blockchain.
Every activated TRON address receives a small daily allocation of free Bandwidth. This is usually enough for a few simple transactions, such as a TRX transfer.
If there is no Bandwidth available at the address, the fee is paid in TRX at a rate of approximately 0.345 TRX per USDT TRC-20 transfer.
What is Energy?
Energy is required to execute smart contracts.
A standard TRX transfer does not require Energy. However, a USDT transfer does, because it operates via a smart contract.
During the transfer, the network checks the balance, executes the contract code, and updates the sender’s and recipient’s data. Energy is consumed during these computations.
If there is no Energy available, the fee is paid in TRX at a rate of ~6.43 TRX per USDT TRC-20 transfer.
Why it matters
Both of these system resources can be safely rented from en-scope, saving up to 78% on fees for each transfer.
